In the view of the Government of Sweden, it is essential that Swedish enterprises use international guidelines as a point of departure in their work of integrating sustainable business into their operations.
Sustainable business or corporate social responsibility (CSR) is based on the premise that business enterprises should conduct their operations in accordance with UN sustainable development objectives. According to the definition of the Swedish government it encompasses human rights, work requirements, the environment and anti-corruption.
The Swedish enterprises bear a responsibility for their impact on society, a responsibility to protect the environment, uphold human rights, ensure good working conditions and promote anti-corruption measures, gender equality and diversity. 
Swedish enterprises seek to translate the responsibility into concrete action in the countries they operate, creating long-term sustainable business models, attracting the most talented workforces and contributing with training opportunities for employees, also transferring technology and know-how to the host country. Through a sustainable business model the enterprises are strengthening its long-term international competitiveness but also strengthening development opportunities for the host country.
